American Textile History Museum celebrates 50th anniversary

Published On: May 20, 2010

On Sunday, May 23, 2010, the American Textile History Museum (ATHM), Lowell, Mass., will have a free open house to celebrate its 50th anniversary: from spinning wheels to space gloves, from hand looms to nanotechnology. The museum’s mission: to tell America’s story through the art, history and science of textiles. In addition to a 2 p.m. cake cutting and discounts on memberships and gifts, there are three current exhibitions: “ Textile Revolution: An Exploration through Space and Time”; “ More Than a Number,” a story of hope and survival amid the killing fields of Cambodia; and “ Inspired Design: Lasell College at ATHM,” showing contemporary hat designs by talented young designers from Lasell College, paired with the museum’s historic collection.
