Mr. Shalendra Vasudeva, general manager of marketing for Indorama Industries Ltd., announced that India’s first plant for spandex will begin production in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh state in February or March 2012.

The facility is expected to produce 15,000 tons of spandex per year. India’s current market size for spandex is 6,000 tons per year.

India has been importing spandex from Vietnam, China, Korea and Taiwan. The new plant will provide India’s textile industry with an indigenous source of spandex.
