Huntsman and DuPont textile alliance launch new stain-repelling finish

Published On: May 22, 2013

Huntsman Textile Effects, a division of Huntsman Corporation and global provider of dyes and chemicals to the textile and related industries, has released a new fluoropolymer available under the brand names Phobol® CP-DP and Phobol CP-DL. This new dual-acting finish system is based on short-chain chemistry—a product development that lessens its environmental footprint.

The Huntsman and DuPont textile alliance was the first to launch the dual action repel and release system. The new finish has a stain-repelling agent that acts as an invisible barrier so liquid spills bead and roll off fabric. It also has a release technology that prevents fibers from holding stains and soils, allowing them to be easily washed away during laundering.

Phobol CP is based on DuPont Capstone® short-chain chemistry. It meets the standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 2010/15 Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) Stewardship Program and is compliant with the EU Directive 2006/122 for Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), which restricts the marketing and use of PFOS.

Phobol CP is also compliant with OEKO-TEX® 100. It meets the requirements of various brand/retail restricted substance lists and meets the commitments of the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) group’s joint roadmap.

Fabrics treated with Phobol CP can qualify for the Teflon® fabric protector hangtag. The finish is the latest addition to the Teflon fabric protector shield and clean portfolio.
