The sporting world on GreenFields’ turf

The Perth Hockey Stadium is where Australia’s national field hockey teams prepare for and play their most important matches, and Hockey Western Australia wanted the best artificial grass system available for the venue. Following the example of the Royal Netherlands Hockey Association and ten other Dutch hockey clubs, Hockey Western Australia selected GreenFields® TX to replace the pitch in Perth. GreenFields Sports Turf Systems, Genemuiden, The Netherlands, makes its artificial turf by 3-D weaving of diamond-shaped yarns, a process developed by its parent company, TenCate.

“The GreenFields TX hockey system is great and our athletes are enjoying training on the surface,” said Trish Heberle, performance director of Hockey Western Australia. “The ball rolls straight and its behavior is natural—two important characteristics.” The Greenfields TX hockey system is installed at the Kyocera and GreenFields Stadiums in The Hague, The Netherlands, the site of the 2014 World Cup, so Australian field hockey players can practice on the same artificial turf, a distinct competitive advantage. The system was installed by correcting the asphalt subsurface beneath the pitch, putting in an elastic underlay and using a clamping system around the perimeter of the pitch, avoiding the use of glue directly between the artificial grass carpet and the underlay.
