Don Racine, a longtime Marine Fabricators Association member and supporter, died on April 18 as the result of a heart attack. He was 61.

Racine was a frequent presenter at MFA conventions, workshops and IFAI Expo. He was also a regular featured author of instructional techniques in Marine Fabricator magazine and was a past winner of MFA Fabrication Excellence Awards.

Together with his wife Carol, Racine owned Racine Design of Jacksonville, Fla.; the company has been an ATA member since 2008.

Originally from northern Minnesota, Racine’s background was in building, design and construction. He operated Racine Design for some 20 years, and once said he got into the business as a carpenter when Carol’s upholstery business began to attract increased marine work. He designed and built custom boat tops and enclosures, as well as worked on antique-boat restoration. He enjoyed recreational boating and motorcycle riding with friends.
