Vietnam turns down textile projects

Published On: June 30, 2015

Authorities in Da Nang City, Vietnam, recently rejected two foreign-invested projects in the textile, dyeing and garment sector, including a $200 million project registered by an investor from Hong Kong and another registered by an investor from South Korea.

They were turned down because of the environmental problems they may cause. The city is focusing on developing a tourism industry, targeting sustainable development, and has decided to attract only projects using clean technologies. Vietnam provinces Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Dong Nai also announced they are not encouraging projects in labor-intensive and polluting industries.
