The winner of a 2007 IAA outstanding achievement award in the trade show, display & stage category
is the Advanced Fabrics exhibition structure at IFAI Expo 2005, created by the University of Texas College of Architecture, San Antonio, Texas. This tension-structure exhibition was designed for the IFAI 2005 convention in San Antonio. It was the centerpiece of the show, which featured state-of-the-art fabric exhibits. Made up of a 1-inch aluminum curved frame, the Lycra fabric is stretched to achieve a caterpillar or armadillo form to represent Texas. Black fabric creates a suave backdrop for the special exhibits that were flown in from all over the world. The entire project, with its fabric in only four large pieces, was assembled in a staging area and disassembled and transported to site for final installation, which took only two hours from start to finish. The organic and biomorphic form provided dynamism to the exhibition and defined a sophisticated space for the exhibits.
