I love attending IFAI Expo and the MFA (Marine Fabricators Association) National Convention and having those moments when the light bulb goes on—those moments when I’m attending demonstrations by other industry members and I see how they overcome fabrication problems. At the last Expo in October, I received my Master Fabric Craftsman, Marine Exterior certification. My wife Tammy encouraged me to go through the process. She said, “If this is what you want to do when you grow up, you might as well do it right and go all the way with it.” I didn’t know exactly what I expected the process to be like, but I didn’t expect it to be as difficult as it was. There was a lot of work involved, which made it more valuable and interesting. It gave me a renewed respect for others who’ve achieved IFAI certifications.
