2010 OFPANZ “best ever”

"Best ever in 10 years” was the verdict of Merv and Roslyn Garrett from Bay Canvas Ltd. in Tauranga, N. Z. following the 2010 OFPANZ Conference and Trade Expo. Delegates from New Zealand and Australia participated in the conference, held at The Spencer on Byron, Takapuna, in Auckland, N. Z. in June. U.S. Consul General Randy Berry officially opened the conference, with Kathy Mattson, IFAI vice president of member services, supporting his key message of working in partnership to gain a higher profile in the international marketplace.

Sponsored by the N.Z. Motor Industry Training Organization Inc. to participate in the business sessions, IFAI board members Chris Nolan (Australia) and Mike Erickson (U.S.) jointly presented the Supreme Award of Excellence to Structurflex Ltd. commercial manager Philip Haydon, for “The Farm,” which was also awarded the 2009 IAA Outstanding Achievement for Fabric Art. Positioned on a hillside on the edge of Kaipara Harbour in Auckland, this complex project is the first permanent outdoor installation designed by world-renowned sculptor Anish Kapoor.

All OFPANZ Awards of Excellence category winners have been entered into the 2010 International Achievement Awards, which will be announced at IFAI Expo Americas 2010 in Orlando, Fla. in October.

The Trade Expo drew exhibitors from throughout Australasia. “The quality of the trade show and the caliber of the speakers were outstanding,” says Brendan Duffy, Canvasland Holdings Ltd., Levin, N.Z.

International keynote speaker, Mike Erickson from Canvas Designers Inc., Riviera Beach, Fla., offered impressive visuals, personal business insights and advice on how technology can future-proof a business. Amy Scott, Red Gumboot Consulting Ltd., Central Otago, N.Z., captured the imagination with her colorful communication strategies, and Rosemary Hazlewood, Buildings Networks NZ Ltd., Pipitea, N.Z., challenged delegates with her knowledge and experience in building legislation.

Mike Keys from Watermelon Shade Ltd., Christchurch, N.Z., summarized the general consensus of the delegates and exhibitors. “This year’s event was extremely well organized, very informative, great for networking.” The 2011 OFPANZ Conference will be held at the South Island tourism destination of Nelson, N.Z.
