GMA lobbies in Washington

Geosynthetic Materials Association (GMA), a division of IFAI, organized and sponsored Lobby Days Sept. 12-13 in Washington D.C., with 25 attendees representing 16 GMA member companies participating. IFAI staff, including president Mary Hennessy, director of technical markets Andrew Aho, integrated media specialist Julia Heath, and associate director of technical markets Lucie Passus were among those who held a total of 28 meetings with members of the U.S. Congress and policy advisors.

The meetings provided the opportunity for IFAI, IFAI member companies and GMA partnering organizations to advocate for the geosynthetics industry. Issues discussed included an update on the Government Accountability Office (GAO) study on geosynthetics used in roadways; geosynthetics applications in shale gas fracking; and geosynthetic systems in coal as waste facilities.
