IFAI Code Committee tracks industry-wide code changes

The ATA Code Committee is comprised of members from four divisions of the Advanced Textiles Association: the Fabric Graphics Association, Lightweight Structures Association, Professional Awning Manufacturers Association and the Tent Rental Division. The committee has submitted industry definitions to the ICC, testified in related hearings, and will be exhibiting at the ICC Annual Conference in September 2008. Each division is working within its own sector in the following areas:

Fabric Graphics Association

(www.fabricgraphicsassociation.com): Monitoring the revision to California State Fire Marshal textile flammability requirements.

Lightweight Structures Association

(www.lightweightstructures-ifai.com): Addressing the perception of the flammability of PVC materials used in structures, both tensile and air structures.

Professional Awning Manufacturers Association

(www.awninginfo.com): After surveying the awning industry regarding code-related issues, developing the PAMA Awning & Canopy Building Codes Reference document.

Tent Rental Division

(www.tentexperts.org): Addressing California building code modifications structure requirements for tents and surveying building code officials.

Juli Case is ATA’s Information and Technical Services Manager and the chair of the ATA Code Committee. She is also a member of ASTM, NFPA, and ICC, and serves on the Technical Advisory Committee for the ISO committee for textiles.
