X-Rite acquires Pantone

X-Rite, a global provider of computer-based color measuring and matching systems, has agreed to purchase Pantone Inc. for $180 million. Pantone, based in Carlstadt, N.J., sells its color matching system to the design, graphic arts, digital technology, fashion, home, plastics, architecture and contract interiors, and paint industries. Pantone will become a business unit with X-Rite, and current management will continue to play key roles.

Pantone generated revenue ofabout $42 million in 2006, withadjusted earnings before interest,taxes, depreciation, and amortization of about 27 percent of revenue. Pantone sells its products, services, and technology directly and through hundreds of licensees in more than100 countries.
