PGI introduces green acoustic materials

Published On: June 1, 2008

In 2007, Polymer Group Inc., Charlotte, N.C., introduced new Silonyx™ substrates as acoustic barriers in automotive trunks and wheel-well liners. This year, Silonyx will be integrated into package trays, hush panels, dash insulators and HVAC ducts, illustrating how a product that is economical and green can make a lot of noise in the market. The Silonyx substrates are made from recyclable polypropylene and PET in a one-step process, producing a cost-effective, lightweight noise-damping option for automotive manufacturers. Components made from Silonyx are themselves recyclable, adding to the benefits. Among those vehicles quietly taking Silonyx on board are the Chevy Malibu, Ford Focus and Honda Civic.
