The meat and cheese counters at Kaiser’s Tengelmann supermarkets in Germany close at 8:00 p.m., but customers shop until 9:00 p.m. or later and expect service. The grocery retailer decided to manage expectations, installing digitally printed vertical screens that lower from closed boxes on the ceiling to signal that chilled fresh food counters are closed for the day.
Junkers & Müllers (JM), Mönchengladbach, Germany, manufacturer of Mediatex® Bermuda printable screen fabric, worked with Thesing Sonnenschutztechnick, Coesfeld, Germany, on this custom camouflage. Mediatex takes vibrant color, hangs without curling (even in humid conditions), and is soil and water resistant. All Kaiser’s Tengelmann supermarkets will be fitted with the screens, with 12 stores already completed. “Any possible doubts were diminished when Jörg Hippel [of JM] … poured a glass of Coca Cola over the fabric without leaving a trace,” says Jürgen Frentzen of Kaiser’s Tengelmann.
