Bendable concrete suppresses structural distress

Problem:The cost of concrete repairs will soon exceed that of new construction.

Solution: Engineered cementitious composites (ECC), a fiber-reinforced product also known as ‘bendable concrete,’ suppresses cracking and structural distress. Similar in composition to typical fiber-reinforced concrete, ECC is a mixture of cement, sand, water, fiber and a small amount of commercial admixtures, but it can bend as much as five percent, making the mix attractive for retaining walls, architectural elements and patching bridge decks.
