Universal Fibers will invest $13 million in an expansion of its headquarters near Bristol, Va. The expansion will create 84 new jobs and increase the company’s spinning capacity in order to help meet customer demands for recycled and recyclable products.

A leading producer of solution-dyed fibers for the commercial flooring, transportation, industrial fiber and textile markets, the company has been located in Washington County, Va., for nearly 40 years. This is the ninth major expansion at the plant since it established operations in 1970.

The expansion is partly funded by a $150,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund, as well as $300,000 from the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission. Universal Fibers has started the hiring process and expects the total number of employees to be around 420. Those interested in applying can contact the Virginia Employment Commission.
