Building barrier wrap becomes fluid

More than 50 percent of newly constructed buildings are wrapped in DuPont Tyvek®, a weather barrier material that has stood the test of time. Now DuPont extends its reach in the market with DuPont Tyvek Fluid Applied Weather Barrier System, which provides the same building protection as the wrap in a liquid that can be rolled on or spray applied. DuPont, Wilmington, De., introduced the product for commercial building use in May, with national availability planned for early 2011.

The fluid Tyvek offers the same water protection and heat conservation features as the wrap, but allows architects greater flexibility in building design and construction crews more options for protecting hard-to-reach areas. The fluid system provides more elasticity to move as buildings shift or settle over time. DuPont predicts that the market for fluid-applied building protection will increase from 20 to 30 percent by 2013.
