Cooley Group partnered with Ricoh Americas Corp., Takara Media, Lamar Advertising and Xunlight Corp., to install the first 100-percent solar- powered billboard in Times Square.

“We appreciate the support from Takeshi Watarai of Takara Media and Ben Martish of Lamar Advertising and appreciate Ricoh Americas commitment to be the first user of our new thin film solar billboard system,” said P. Robert Siener Jr., chairman of the Cooley Group.

“The Ricoh Times Square Billboard, measuring in at over 6,000 square feet, is made from a new flexible, lightweight, eco-friendly, solar-powered billboard system from Cooley Group.

As the evolution of thin film photovoltaic (TFPV) technology advances, the integration with the company’s flexible composites will make its products more affordable to a larger percentage of applications. Cooley has been working on TFPV integration for the last several years and now will be introducing systems for other applications, such as commercial roofing, outdoor advertising and military tents.
