Damask transforms indoor spaces

The Summer Ball is the event of the season at St. Piran’s School, Maidenhead, England, and each year the social and fundraising committee struggles with transforming a school sports hall into a glamorous venue for 260 guests. After hiring Oasis Events Limited in 2008 to create a huge and inviting Bedouin tent with exotic lighting, props, and comfortable floor-level seating, St. Piran’s returned to the event management firm for a different look.

Oasis recently launched a new interior design style called Rococo, named for an 18th century art style focusing on ornate, florid and excessive decoration. The interior spaces are lined with black-and-white figured damask, lit with black-beaded chandeliers and floored with a black and white oversized checkerboard. Customers can order accent lighting, video, small group seating and linens in almost any accent color—the black and white backdrop makes royal purple and fire-engine red look equally elegant. St. Piran’s, already an enthusiastic customer, signed up Oasis and its new style for the Summer Ball. “What made it all so easy was their ability to make it work within our requirements and budget,” says Lorraine Skelton, chair of the social and fundraising committee.
