Roger Milliken, former CEO and chair of Milliken & Co., has passed away at the age of 95.

Committed to the textile industry for more than 60 years, Milliken was named leader of the century in 1999 by Textile World magazine.

Milliken succeeded his father as president of the family textile business in 1947, building it into a global brand holding more than 2,300 U.S. patents and offering more than 19,000 chemical and textile products.

Retired textile executive Kurt Zimmerli said he considered Milliken a role model. “He was a great person and a giant without equal in the textile industry,” Zimmerli said. “What he did for this country, state and the community is absolutely enormous, and it will have an influence for years to come.”

Milliken is survived by his five children and nine grandchildren.
