A client in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., asked Hoover Canvas Products to transform the building for their diner and make it stand out. Using 500 fabric from Tri Vantage, the company installed box-shaped awnings in bright, warm colors on the façade of the building. The project was unique because readily available awning materials were used to create a nonconventional design. Installation, however, was complex because of the lack of anchoring points and the need to meet high velocity hurricane zone building codes while maintaining the design intent. In addition to providing shade for each window, the successful project gave the client’s business a fresh look that attracted customers to the new business. The project won an IAA 2010 Outstanding Achievement Award.
