Canopy and roll curtains allow outdoor entertainment

[Sunmaster of Naples Inc.] Naples, Fla., U.S.A.

Sunmaster of Naples installed a 16-by-14-foot insulated canopy with a multiple-droop underlining covering over an outside patio bar. The clients wanted to enjoy their outside entertainment area during all types of weather conditions, so two 12-by-14-inch motorized, side-guided, clear vinyl roll curtains were also made to provide weather protection on two exposed sides. The perimeter beam has drainage holes to serve as a gutter and capture rainwater, channeling it to a connected downspout. The frame is supported on two sides by building components, with the cantilevered canopy using a single post mounted through the bar so the traffic area is unimpeded. Since the residence is situated on the bayfront, the roll curtains utilized a Somfy motorized, Mitijavila side-guide system for wind control and stainless hardware to guard against salt corrosion. The project won an IAA 2010 Award of Excellence.
