NanoHorizons Inc., Bellefonte, Pa., wants the Indian textile market to incorporate its SmartSilver antimicrobial additive into its fabrics and footwear. The company is partnering with Indorama Polyester Industries Ltd. (IPI), Bangkok, Thailand, to market the Ambs polyester fiber line with SmartSilver to India’s emerging medical textile sector. “India is currently the world’s second largest producer and exporter of textiles and footwear, representing a $2 billion business,” says Prabeer Mukherjee, senior vice president of IPI’s Polyester Business for Textiles and Packaging. “Ambs is an inherently antimicrobial yarn that is ready to knit and needs no additional treatment.” SmartSilver is registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for fiber, coating and polymer applications and is approved by International Oeko-Tex Association as being free from harmful substances.
