ARA’s Professional Driver Education Program celebrates first anniversary

Published On: October 19, 2011

The American Rental Association (ARA) Professional Driver Education Program recently celebrated its one-year anniversary. Developed in cooperation with ARA Insurance and a number of rental operators, representing small- to large-size construction and general tool member companies, the ARA Professional Driver Education Program has issued certificates of completion to nearly 400 rental professionals in its first year.

The program offers nearly seven hours of comprehensive training and a final exam. ARA’s senior director of education and training, Carla Brozick, states the program was developed because “Drivers do more than just drive. Properly securing equipment for transport is a large part of their job and when not done correctly, DOT fines and accidents can occur. Many times, the delivery driver is the primary company representative to the customers and must manage risks associated with equipment delivery every day.”

Industry best practices are also cited that help drivers avoid ’s CSA initiative, which could result in substantial fines and lost time. Since its inception, more than 500 individuals have enrolled with nearly 90 ARA member companies supporting the program.
