EarthKnit wattle tube fabric from Supertex Inc. offer a simple, lightweight and flexible means of erosion control. The new wattle tubes can be factory finished, filled and shipped, or filled on site with compacted fiber, straw, wood chips or shavings, large particle stone and other materials. Installed along contours or at the base of slopes to help reduce soil erosion and retain sediment, they function by shortening slope length, reducing runoff water velocity, trapping dislodged soil particles and ameliorating the effects of slope steepness. Wattles are effective when used in combination with re-vegetation practices, surface roughening, mulching, erosion control blankets or hydraulic soil stabilizers.
