Athletes seek every advantage in their need for speed, and track and field athletes are among those who win or lose based on fractions of a second. Nike Inc., Beaverton, Ore., has incorporated 1,000 hours of wind tunnel testing and insights from the fastest athletes in the world to evolve a set of core principles to make athletic wear better and faster. The company’s Pro TurboSpeed uniforms are up to 0.023 seconds faster over 100 meters than Nike’s previous track uniforms due to zoned aerodynamics, zero distraction and light weight.

Nike used AeroSwift technology in its Pro TurboSpeed athletic wear to ensure that patterns and surface architectures are informed by wind tunnel technology to be strategically placed on the athlete’s body to maximally reduce aerodynamic drag. The interior surfaces of the uniforms remain smooth, even and uninterrupted, with elastics and edge finishes that do not distract athletes with bulkiness or abrasion. Nike’s lightweight materials, such as uniforms with 82 percent recycled polyester fabric, and Dri-FIT moisture management, keep athletes light, cool and focused on the gold.
