South Texas College in McAllen, Texas, received a $600,000 job-training grant from the Texas Workforce Commission to train more than 300 employees of Santana Textiles in lean manufacturing, supply chain management and Six Sigma process-improvement strategies.

Santana Textiles, one of the world’s largest denim producers, operates facilities in Brazil and Argentina; the company will open a 33-acre facility in Edinburg, Texas, in fall 2012. The company plans to send Texas-grown cotton through the spinning, dyeing and weaving process on state-of-the-art equipment in the Edinburg plant. Finished product will be shipped to Mexico for labor-intensive cutting and sewing.
