Two designers in San Francisco have merged safety, fashion and culture into an article of clothing. Their idea: to create the world’s first multipurpose illuminating LED safety belt that also looks good. HALO looks like an ordinary, everyday belt. Within the premium quality nylon of the belt, an LED emits lighting through a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) fiber optic. The LED is powered by two nickel lithium batteries encased in the belt. The batteries can last up to 300 hours, depending on the light mode of choice: strobe, flash, or solid. The HALO belt can be used anywhere visibility is an issue: while changing a tire on the side of the road, jogging at night or catching a bus in the early or late hours of a school day. And cyclists won’t need to worry about this bit of illumination being stolen.
