Lenzing presents new flame-resistant fiber for upholstery

Lenzing has developed a new flame-resistant fiber especially for use in upholstery fabrics in public transportation vehicles. The guidelines that apply to public transportation vehicles are particularly strict; the fabric and materials used in these applications have to satisfy rigorous safety standards. With a newly developed Lenzing FR® fiber, all the safety standards for public safety are satisfied.

The advantage of a safety fiber in public transportation is that Lenzing FR is made from beechwood and is endowed with all of the positive properties this natural fiber has to offer. The seating “climate” remains excellent even over longer distances, since the good breathing properties of the fiber take effect here. Lenzing FR, unlike conventional protective fibers, does not melt, drip or afterglow. Another important safety aspect is that the new flame-resistant fiber delivers a lower rate of toxicity and flue gas density in the event of a fire.

The new fiber is particularly well suited for use in blends with wool. Both fibers complement each other superbly. Resistance to fading and excellent pilling performance coupled with durability make upholstery fabrics a pleasure to sit on. As a result of using the Lenzing FR “divan fiber,” treating wool with additional, ecologically harmful flame-retardant agents is not necessary—another distinct production advantage.
