Powered retractable roofs for boats

Published On: January 1, 2014

Boat builders and buyers want convenience on a vessel in which both invest time and money, and automated power roofs are becoming a must-have. Taylor Made Systems, Gloversville, N.Y. and its partner company, Ameritex Fabric Systems, Bradenton, Fla., have the boating industry covered, literally, with a new range of glass and canvas power sunroof systems to protect boaters from wind, rain and sun.

Ameritex’s retractable canvas roof series provides an attractive lighter weight alternative to existing products. The fabric folds and stacks neatly when retracted, opening up the area to allow air inflow. The seamless, double-skin fabric is waterproof and extremely durable. The canvas locks itself into the track for a leak-proof connection and, when closed, the fabric is tensioned automatically for a snug fit. The new power roof, introduced at the 2013 International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference, joined Taylor Made’s new sliding glass sunroof.
