Embedded antimicrobials from PurThread

Published On: February 1, 2014

Eastman Kodak Co. developed proprietary technology derived from its expertise in photosensitive materials that works as an antimicrobial agent in textiles. In November, PurThread Technologies Inc., Durham, N.C., announced an exclusive agreement to use Kodak’s antimicrobial agent in high-performance and medical textiles. The antimicrobial is embedded into synthetic fibers before they are spun into yarn and woven into fabric. The effects are uniform and constant throughout the life of products such as medical scrubs, lab coats, privacy curtains and bed linens. PurThread plans to incorporate the technology into fitness apparel, such as polo shirts and base layers, for odor control. For more information, visit PurThread Technologies.
