The tropics come to Winnipeg

Palm trees, waterfalls, lush flowers—it must be a tropical location, right? Not so fast. This getaway is the Club Regent Casino in Winnipeg, Canada. A popular spot that brings a bit of Las Vegas to the plains, the casino opened a new state-of-the-art event center in August 2014. The goal for the design of the Club Regent Event Centre was to complement the aesthetic of the casino while providing a flexible design to suit the needs of a variety of events.

That flexibility is achieved with a hydraulic seating system that re-arranges the center into an unlimited number of seating and floor configurations with the push of a button. Integral to the overall design is woven metal mesh fabric made by Banker Wire of Mukwonago, Wis., which is used as infill on the railings throughout the space and provides a sophisticated accent, no matter how the center’s floor is configured.

The S-9 metal fabric features a unique texture that evokes raindrops on tropical plants. Banker Wire uses an exclusive embossed technology to produce the mesh, using precision tooling to flatten and crimp the round wire in an angular pattern with raised facets. The mesh still has a 63.4 percent open area to allow for uninterrupted sight lines, essential for a performance venue.
