The Fabric Structures Association (FSA), a division of IFAI, announced the winners of the 2017 Fabric Structures Student Design Challenge at IFAI Expo in New Orleans on Sept. 28.
First Place: Ahmad Nouraldeen, from Anhalt Hochschule, took the top prize for his project “Tenso Refugee Shelter,” a non-permanent structure to be used as a weather-protected shelter for refugees.
Second Place: Fabien Burgeat, Clemence Saint-Maurice, and Estelle Privy from Vallès School of Architecture ETSAV, for their project “Beer Discovery Pavilions.”
Third Place: Ansh Vakil from the University of Southern California for “R(e)-Invigoration.”
Students were challenged to design a fabric structure that provides shelter and architectural interest for a public or commercial space. IFAI sponsors four different Student Design Challenges for students pursuing degrees in the industry, in these categories: Advanced Textiles, Awnings and Canopies, Fabric Graphics and Fabric Structures.
