Roy Schweinfurth, former ATA board member and president, died October 8th. He served on the ATA Board of Directors from 1977 to 1989, and as ATA president (a position now called chairman) from 1985 to 1987. He was involved with the ATA Awning Division, now called the Professional Awning Manufacturers Association. His obituary appeared in the Chicago Tribune Media Group Publication on October 15th as follows:

It is with great sadness that the family of Roy Schweinfurth of Olympia Fields, IL announces his passing on October 8, 2017, at the age of 91 years. Roy will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Nancy Farris, Beverly (John) Olson, and Wendy Schweinfurth. Roy will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Kim (Ray) Victoria, Roy (Kayla) King, Robert Green, Laura Green, and Elise (Charlie) Carlson, as well as his great grandchildren, Morgan, Kaylee, Joey, and Abbie King, Katie and Megan Klipstein, and Tucker Carlson. Roy was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Louise.

Roy was a master fabric craftsman in his lifelong work as an awning manufacturer at his business, Awnco, Inc. He was active in the association ATA, where he served in many capacities including president. He was instrumental and supportive when his wife founded Good Shepherd Center, where she was director for many years. Roy volunteered there and served on the board. Roy was a kind, compassionate man, and always a gentleman. He would do anything for his wife and daughters. He had a knack for helping but not interfering and was always diplomatic in his dealings with his daughters. Roy and Louise traveled extensively around the world, making friends wherever they went. Having been very active in their community, they were inducted together into the Olympia Fields Hall of Fame in 2007.

It was Roy’s wish that arrangements be private. Memorial donations in memory of Roy may be made to Good Shepherd Center, 17214 S. Kedzie Ave, Hazel Crest, IL 60429.
