Polar Shade shifts focus to PPE

Published On: April 10, 2020

Polar Shades Sun Control, Las Vegas, Nev., typically manufactures window coverings, but the company has recently shifted focus to make PPE in response to COVID-19. Steve Mevius, owner of Polar, and Jordan Mevius put their heads together on how they could help make a difference for their community. “Right now, it is our job to do the right thing and protect our first responders in any way that we can,” says Steve Mevius, “and that is our promise to Nevada.”

Within 48 hours of deciding to make PPE, they transformed their plant, producing medical supplies for first responders and healthcare providers in Nevada. On a daily basis, Polar Shades can produce approximately 10,000 gowns, 3,000 surgical masks and 1,000 face shields.

“When we heard that our first responders needed supplies, Polar Shades knew we could help. As a family-owned business founded in Las Vegas, we are dedicated to giving back to the community that has allowed us to grow over the past 25 years,” says Jordan Mevius, of Polar Shades. “Our family and our dedicated employees want to help and have vowed to work tireless 16 hour shifts to produce these protective gowns and masks.” The other 8 hours of the day are specifically dedicated for running the actual business, providing shades and to “cover everything under the sun.”

A Go Fund Me account has been set up to help offset the costs of PPE materials and labor. More information can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/f/polar-shades-masks-and-gowns?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link-tip&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet.
