The Fabricated Geomembrane Institute (FGI) will sponsor a webinar, “Geomembrane Attachment and Penetration Design and Installation,” on February 4, at 11 a.m. CST. The webinar is free to industry professional and students, and 1 PDH is available.

The webinar will provide an overview of industry norms for sealing and attaching of geomembrane liners to pipe penetrations and structures, including design considerations and variations, materials and installation methods, quality testing, common problems, and key components for a successful project.

Presenters

Patrick Elliott is the director of installation services for Raven Engineered Films through their subsidiary, Raven CLI Construction Inc. Elliott oversees and directs the installation operations for Raven CLI Construction. Raven CLI Construction is an  International Association of Geosynthetics Installers (IAGI) approved installation contractor (AIC), and they strive to employ experienced certified welding technicians (CWT) to promote the highest level of service. Elliott has a multitude of industry experience and understands the liner business from the ground up with more than 25 years in geosynthetics installation. He started his career as a field technician back in 1994, followed by supervisor at the age of 19, and then moved into estimating projects just six years later. Elliott was promoted to Construction Manager in 2003, ultimately followed by vice president of Colorado Lining International Inc. in 2012, prior to the company being acquired by Raven Industries in 2017. Elliott has since, advanced his expertise in geosynthetics through Raven Engineered Films to increase competences in polymer design and manufacturing operations. Additionally, Elliott is the current president for FGI, a nonprofit organization; and is serving his second two-year term in this position.

Brendan Simbeck has received training in the repair and operation of all standard geomembrane equipment, as well as OSHA, MSHA, HAZWOPER and HAZMAT certifications. He received an associate degree in manufacturing technology, including CAD-CAM design and programming, welding and machining, from Trinidad State Junior College in 2011. Simbeck also spent years supervising an ISO:9001 and AS9100 certified aerospace manufacturing facility, and overseeing all CNC Machine Shop operations for the round-the-clock manufacturer of precision parts. An advocate for process development and continual improvement, Simbeck is always looking for ways to improve by using the latest technologies in geomembrane welding and testing equipment, CAD software, ERP and QC data reporting to add quality, accuracy and efficiency to Simbeck’s decades of field installation experience.

Duff Simbeck is vice president of Simbeck and Associates, and a graduate of Harvard University. He has been involved in the field installation of geosynthetics and project management for 22 years, including Summitville, Nottingham Lake and hundreds of landfills and wastewater projects from North Carolina to California. Simbeck and Associates works primarily in the western states and is a member of both FGI and IAGI.
