Schoeller Technologies, Sevelen, Germany, wanted to protect its range of technical fabric technologies from fraud and developed a secret chemical that uniquely identifies the legitimate material. Schoeller’s recently developed “small sensation” is a promising product, DNAtex, which can be applied at all stages of textile production and has no effect on the color, look, feel, breathability or function of the product. A small electronic scanner looks for the unique DNAtex and emits a green light when the scanned product is real, and a red light when the product is a fake.
