Celebrated architect Helmut Jahn died on Saturday, May 8, when he was struck by two vehicles while riding his bike in Campton Hills, a western Chicago suburb. He was 81.

One of Jahn’s most recent projects was the fabric-wrapped ThyssenKrupp test tower in Rottweil, Germany, which earned many awards, including a 2019 Award of Excellence in the Hybrid Tension Structure category of IFAI’s International Achievement Awards (IAA) along with an IAA “Best in Category” title for all fabric structure projects that year.

Other structures Jahn was known for include the Sony Center on the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, One Liberty Place in Philadelphia and the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand.
